Sharepoint 2003 to Sharepoint 2007 Migration
February 11, 2007 at 10:40 am | In Readify |I’m currently upgrading Readify’s internal Sharepoint 2003 installation to Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server (MOSS) 2007.
Fortunately there are plenty of resources for planning an installation and performing a migration on TechNet.
Basically there’s three options for 2003 to 2007 and the TechNet Determine Upgrade Approach document describes them in more detail:
- In-place upgrade – upgrades content and configuration in place. Environment offline, no rollback
- Gradual Upgrade – Installs 2007 side-by-side and redirects non-upgraded sites to the 2003 engine.
- Database migration – Install a new instance of 2007, copy + reattach the DB to the new instance, then do a gradual upgrade on them. Ability to roll back to old server.
Since we have a lot of stale/useless content in our existing portal our migration plan is “don’t bring across anything from the old one, unless it is manually migrated using the Readify Content Migration Tool that Matty Cosier has written”.
I’ll keep you posted on how it all goes.
